# How we verify listings

Every listing comes from NEIWPCC's public lists of MassDEP-approved Title 5 System Inspectors (current 10/2/2026), last retrieved and checked on 2026-10-12.

## What we check

* Each inspector appears on the official approved list, with their SI number and approval expiry date shown on the listing.
* Inspectors whose approval had expired at retrieval are left out (0 at the last check).
* Inspectors listed under a board of health, town, county or MassDEP are left out as regulators, not private hires.
* Town names are normalized (villages and misspellings mapped to the municipality) and people at the same firm and town are grouped.

## What we don't verify

* Workmanship, prices, insurance or availability.
* Phone numbers, websites, ratings and emails we added from Google Maps listings and firm websites (labelled on each card). We match them carefully, but they are not part of the official record.
